Safety Systems: Airbags, Cameras, and Driver Assist

Safety systems are the features you hope never activate — but when they do, they must work perfectly. A deployed airbag that was replaced but not properly calibrated, a backup camera showing a blurry image, or a blind spot sensor that stopped detecting vehicles — these are failures that have no visible warning. AutoFay tests 27 safety and security checkpoints to verify that every system designed to protect occupants is fully functional.

Airbag Systems: Beyond the Warning Light

The Airbag System is checked first — No Warning, Warning Light On, or Deployed. A warning light that stays on after starting the engine means the system has detected a fault and may not deploy in a collision. Front Airbags, Side Airbags, and Curtain Airbags are each verified as Present, Warning, or Deployed/Missing. A previously deployed airbag that was properly replaced should show no warning — if a warning persists after replacement, the system was not correctly recalibrated.

Seat Belt Pretensioners are tested — these are explosive devices built into seat belts that pull the belt tight in a fraction of a second during a crash. Once deployed, they must be replaced. A pretensioner showing Warning or Deployed status means the car was in a collision significant enough to trigger the restraint system. The Anti-Theft Alarm and Immobilizer are verified for basic security function.

Cameras and Parking Systems

The Backup Camera is rated Working, Blurry, or Not Working. A blurry backup camera makes it difficult to judge distance and detect small obstacles. Surround View Cameras — the bird's-eye view system on premium vehicles — are tested as Working, Partial, or Not Working. A partial system means one or more cameras have failed, leaving blind spots in the composite image.

Front and Rear Parking Sensors are each tested — Working, Partial, or Not Working. Partial means some sensors in the array have failed, creating zones where obstacles are not detected. Park Assist — the automated parking feature — is verified where equipped.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Modern vehicles carry sophisticated driver assistance systems. Blind Spot Detection is tested as Working or Not Working — this system monitors adjacent lanes and warns when a vehicle is in the driver's blind spot. Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver when the car drifts from its lane without signaling. Lane Keep Assist goes further by actively steering the car back into its lane.

Forward Collision Warning detects vehicles ahead and warns of potential impact. Automatic Emergency Braking takes it further by applying the brakes if the driver does not respond. Adaptive Cruise Control maintains following distance automatically and is tested along with Standard Cruise Control. These systems rely on cameras, radar, and sensors that can be affected by windshield replacement, front-end damage, or calibration drift. A system showing Not Working may need recalibration rather than component replacement.

Stability and Traction Systems

Traction Control and Stability Control (ESC/VSC) are verified — Working, Warning Light, or Not Working. These systems prevent wheel spin and loss of control during sudden maneuvers or on slippery surfaces. Brake Assist amplifies braking force during emergency stops. Rear Cross-Traffic Alert warns when vehicles approach from the sides while reversing — particularly useful in angled parking common in UAE malls and buildings. Pedestrian Detection and Driver Monitoring System are checked where equipped. Traffic Sign Recognition reads road signs and displays speed limits on the dashboard. Each system is independently verified because a single faulty sensor can disable multiple features.
