Power features are the convenience technologies that make modern cars comfortable to live with. Every powered window, lock, mirror, and seat uses an electric motor, a switch, and wiring — and each can fail independently. A car might have perfect mechanical health but carry multiple failed power features that affect daily usability and reduce resale value. AutoFay tests 18 power feature checkpoints to document the state of every powered convenience system.
Windows: Testing Every Position
Power Windows are tested at each position separately. Driver, Passenger, and Rear windows are each rated Working, Slow, or Not Working. A slow window has a motor that is wearing out or a regulator with increased friction — it still closes but takes noticeably longer. One-Touch Windows — the auto-up and auto-down feature — are tested because this feature relies on an additional sensor in the motor that can fail separately from the motor itself. A window that moves but lacks one-touch function may need motor replacement or recalibration.
Locks, Entry, and Keys
Power Door Locks are rated All Working, Some Not Working, or Not Working. A single non-functional lock means that door must be locked manually — inconvenient and a security risk if forgotten. Keyless Entry is tested as Working, Intermittent, or Not Working. Intermittent keyless entry may respond only when very close to the car, indicating a weak battery in the fob or a failing receiver in the car. Smart Key and Proximity Entry is tested separately — this is the walk-up, pull-handle entry without pressing a button. Remote Start is checked on equipped vehicles.
Mirrors: Adjust, Heat, and Fold
Power Mirrors are rated Working, One Side Only, or Not Working. A mirror that does not adjust electrically requires the driver to manually push the glass — an annoyance that buyers often discover only after purchase. Heated Mirrors are tested where equipped — these prevent fogging and condensation, useful during UAE winter morning humidity. Auto-Folding Mirrors are checked — Working or Not Working. This feature folds mirrors when locking the car, protecting them in tight parking spaces. A stuck folding mechanism is a common issue that can result from sand intrusion into the motor assembly.
Seats: Power Adjustment and Comfort
Power Driver Seat and Power Passenger Seat are each rated Working, Partial, or Not Working. Partial means some movements work (forward/back) while others do not (recline, height, tilt). Each failed motor is a separate repair. Lumbar Support is tested — this adjustable lower back support is a common failure point where the inflatable bladder or motor wears out. The Sunroof or Moonroof is rated Working, Noisy, Stuck, or Leaking. A noisy sunroof has worn tracks or guides. A stuck sunroof may have a failed motor or a stripped cable. A leaking sunroof has degraded seals — particularly concerning because water entering the cabin damages electronics, headliner, and carpet.
The Convertible Top is checked on applicable vehicles — Working, Slow, Leaking, or Not Working. Power Rear Sunshade and Power Steering Column adjustment are tested where equipped. Each feature is documented individually because the cost to repair varies significantly — a stuck sunroof might need a simple track cleaning while a non-functional power seat could require a motor, track assembly, or control module replacement.
