EV and Hybrid Battery Health Inspection in UAE

Electric and hybrid vehicles are growing rapidly across the UAE. From Tesla and BMW i-series to Toyota and Lexus hybrids, these vehicles carry a unique set of components that traditional inspections miss entirely. The high-voltage battery is the most expensive single component in the vehicle, and its condition determines both the driving range and the resale value.

Battery Health: The Number That Matters Most

AutoFay's EV and Hybrid inspection begins with the high-voltage battery, rated as Excellent, Good, Degraded, or Needs Replacement. We record the Battery State of Health percentage — the actual capacity remaining compared to when the battery was new. A battery showing 85% state of health means it has lost 15% of its original capacity permanently. Battery Capacity is assessed separately: Full Capacity, Slightly Degraded, or Significantly Degraded.

Cell Variation is a critical metric most buyers overlook. A battery pack contains hundreds of individual cells, and they should all hold roughly the same charge. When some cells degrade faster than others, the variation increases. High cell variation means the weakest cells limit the entire pack's performance, and the gap will only widen over time. Our inspectors flag Normal, High Variation, or Needs Service.

Charging Systems: Port to Onboard Charger

The Charging Port is inspected for physical condition — Working, Damaged, or Not Working. A damaged charging port might accept a plug but fail to initiate charging, or it might charge intermittently. The Onboard Charger handles AC charging from home or public Level 2 stations and is rated Working, Slow Charging, or Not Working. DC Fast Charging capability is tested separately because it uses a different pathway — a vehicle might AC charge normally but fail on fast chargers due to a faulty DC inlet or communication error.

The Charging Cable is checked for condition — Good, Damaged, or Missing. A missing or damaged cable is a cost the buyer should factor in, as OEM replacement cables can be expensive.

Cooling, Motors, and Drive Systems

The Hybrid Battery Cooling system is essential in UAE conditions. Batteries generate heat during charging and discharging, and UAE ambient temperatures push cooling systems harder than in temperate climates. A cooling system rated Working, Noisy, or Not Working tells you whether the battery is protected. The broader EV/Hybrid Cooling System covers the entire thermal management loop — Working, Leaking, or Not Working.

High Voltage Cables are inspected for physical condition — these orange-sheathed cables carry dangerous voltage and any damage is a safety concern. The Service Disconnect is verified as Present or Missing. The Electric Motor is assessed for noise and vibration. The Inverter — which converts DC battery power to AC motor power — is checked for proper function and warning lights.

Regenerative Braking and Drive Modes

Regenerative Braking is tested as Working, Weak, or Not Working. This system recaptures energy during deceleration and feeds it back to the battery. Weak regenerative braking reduces range and may indicate motor or inverter issues. EV Drive Modes and Hybrid Drive Mode switching are verified — a hybrid that cannot switch between electric and combustion modes has a powertrain control problem.

The Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) is checked on EVs — this low-speed warning sound is a pedestrian safety requirement. The 12V Auxiliary Battery is tested because even EVs rely on a small 12V battery for accessories and computer systems. A dead 12V battery can prevent an EV from starting entirely. Range Estimate Accuracy is noted — Accurate or Inaccurate — because a miscalibrated estimate can leave drivers stranded.

AutoFay checks 455+ points including 20 EV and hybrid-specific checkpoints, with HD photos and a detailed PDF report. Mobile inspection across all 7 Emirates. Book at autofay.ae or call +971-50-806-6937.
