Modern cars are built around their screens. Climate controls, vehicle settings, navigation, phone connectivity, and even basic functions like adjusting seat heating often route through the infotainment system. When that system malfunctions, it affects daily usability in ways that go far beyond entertainment. AutoFay tests 13 digital and infotainment checkpoints to verify that the car's central interface works as designed.
Screens and Displays
The Infotainment Screen is rated Working, Glitchy, Cracked, or Not Working. A glitchy screen — one that freezes, lags, or has unresponsive touch zones — is a common issue on vehicles that have been through years of UAE heat. Extreme temperature cycling degrades screen components and adhesives. A cracked screen still functions but is a safety distraction and allows moisture ingress that worsens over time.
The Heads-Up Display (HUD) is tested as Working, Dim, or Not Working. A dim HUD is difficult to see against bright UAE sunlight and may indicate a failing projector unit. The Digital Instrument Cluster is checked as Working, Partial, or Not Working. Partial means some gauges or sections of the screen are not displaying correctly — pixel failures or software glitches that affect readability.
Navigation, Radio, and Media
The Navigation System is verified as Working, Outdated Maps, or Not Working. A system with outdated maps still functions but may not reflect recent road changes — the UAE's road infrastructure changes frequently with new interchanges and highways. Radio/AM/FM reception is tested, along with Satellite Radio where equipped. The CD Player is checked for those vehicles that still have one — Not Working could mean a stuck disc inside.
Connectivity: Bluetooth, CarPlay, and USB
Bluetooth Connectivity is tested as Working, Intermittent, or Not Working. Intermittent Bluetooth — connecting sometimes, dropping calls, or failing to stream audio consistently — is one of the most common driver complaints and can indicate a software issue or a failing Bluetooth module. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility is verified as Working or Not Working. These systems require both a functional USB port and proper software support — a car that advertises CarPlay but does not connect may need a software update or have a damaged USB hub.
USB Ports are tested as All Working, Some Not Working, or Not Working. Non-functional USB ports are common because the charging and data pins wear out from repeated cable insertion. Speakers are tested as All Working, Some Blown, Distorted, or Not Working. Blown speakers produce a rattling or buzzing sound at certain frequencies. The Subwoofer is checked separately — Working or Not Working. A Rear Entertainment System is tested on vehicles equipped with screens for rear passengers.
Why Infotainment Issues Matter for Resale
A faulty infotainment system significantly affects the ownership experience and resale value. Buyers expect screens to be responsive, Bluetooth to connect on the first try, and navigation to guide them accurately. Infotainment repairs can be costly because many issues require replacing the entire head unit rather than repairing individual components. Software updates from the manufacturer may resolve some glitches, but hardware failures — cracked screens, dead pixels, blown amplifiers — require physical replacement. Our inspection documents the exact state of every digital system so buyers can factor these costs into their decision.
