If you are selling a car in the UAE and the buyer requests a pre-purchase inspection, your reaction should be positive. A seller who welcomes inspection demonstrates confidence in the vehicle's condition. A seller who resists inspection raises immediate suspicion. Proper preparation before the inspector arrives does not mean hiding problems — it means presenting the car in its actual maintained condition so the inspection reflects reality rather than neglect.
Documentation: Have It Ready
Gather all available documentation before the inspection. Service records, warranty papers, registration card, insurance documents, and any repair receipts should be accessible. While AutoFay's inspection evaluates the car's physical condition rather than its paperwork, having documentation available supports the inspection findings. A car with service records that match the fluid conditions the inspector finds — engine oil rated Clean with recent oil change receipt — builds a consistent story that gives buyers confidence.
If the car has had any accident repairs, have the repair documentation available. Transparency about previous work actually helps rather than hurts — it shows the buyer that repairs were done properly and documented. The inspector will find repainted panels and repaired components regardless, so having the corresponding repair records available demonstrates honesty.
Fluids and Filters: Top Off and Replace If Due
AutoFay checks engine oil level (Full, Low, Overfilled, Empty, or Sealed Unit) and condition (Clean, Dark, Dirty, or Milky). If your oil change is due or overdue, do it before the inspection. Fresh oil that reads Clean rather than Dirty makes a measurably better impression in the report. Similarly, top off coolant (rated Full, Low, or Empty), check brake fluid level (Full, Low, or Empty), and ensure windshield washer fluid is filled.
Replace the engine air filter (rated Clean, Dirty, or Needs Replacement) and cabin air filter (Clean, Dirty, or Needs Replacement) if they are dirty. These are inexpensive items that directly affect two inspection checkpoints. A dirty cabin air filter also affects the HVAC inspection because it restricts airflow to the blower motor.
Lights and Electrical: Quick Fixes
Walk around the car and check every light. Our exterior lights inspection checks headlights, turn signals, tail lights, brake lights, reverse lights, fog lights, hazard lights, and license plate lights — each rated independently. A blown bulb is a simple fix that takes minutes and costs almost nothing, but it shows up as a deficiency in the report. Replace any non-functioning bulbs before the inspection.
Check that all power windows operate (rated All Working, Some Not Working, or Not Working), all door locks function (All Working or Some Not Working), and the horn works (Working, Weak, or Not Working). These are items that a buyer will test during or after the inspection, and non-functional items create a negative impression beyond their actual cost to repair.
Cleanliness: Present Your Car at Its Best
A clean car inspects better because the inspector can see surfaces clearly. A dirty engine bay makes it harder to identify leaks — engine bay cleanliness is rated Clean, Dirty, or Very Dirty. Clean the engine bay so that any actual leaks from valve cover gaskets, oil seals, or cooling hoses are visible rather than hidden under a layer of grime. Wash the exterior so paint condition, scratches, and dents are clearly visible — this actually helps the inspection be more accurate.
Clean the interior so the inspector can assess dashboard condition, seat condition, carpet/flooring, and door panels without being distracted by dirt. Interior smell (Fresh, Normal, Smoke, Musty, or Pet Odor) is directly affected by cleanliness — a detailed interior clean can move the rating from Musty to Normal if the smell source was surface-level rather than deep contamination.
Address Known Issues Honestly
If you know the car has specific issues — a stored OBD code, a repainted panel, a worn tire — do not try to hide them. Clearing OBD codes before the inspection is detectable because the readiness monitors will show "not ready." Repainting a panel right before inspection may create color mismatch with adjacent panels. The inspection will find these issues regardless, and evidence of concealment reduces buyer trust more than the issue itself would.
Instead, disclose known issues upfront. A seller who says the front bumper was repainted after a parking lot scrape, and the inspection confirms that finding, builds trust. A seller who claims the car is accident-free while the inspection reveals three repainted panels destroys the deal.
Where to Have the Car Ready
AutoFay is a mobile inspection service — we come to you. Have the car in a location with reasonable access: a flat surface where the inspector can walk around and photograph all sides, ideally with shade for interior work and good lighting. Ensure the car has enough fuel for the road test. Leave the car unlocked and accessible — the inspector needs to open all doors, the hood, and the trunk. If the car has a second key fob, have it available for testing keyless entry and remote start functions.
AutoFay inspects 410 checkpoints with HD photos and a detailed PDF report. Mobile inspection across all 7 Emirates. Book at autofay.ae or call +971-50-806-6937.
