Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha are the UAE's peak road trip seasons. Families drive between emirates, head to Oman through the Hatta border or Al Ain, and make long-distance trips that put sustained stress on every vehicle system. The roads are busier than usual, the temperatures are often at their peak, and the car is typically loaded with passengers and luggage. This is the worst possible time for a mechanical failure — and the best possible time for a pre-trip inspection.
Load-Bearing Systems: Your Car Is Fully Loaded
An Eid road trip often means a full car — four or five passengers plus luggage. This additional weight stresses the suspension, brakes, and tires beyond normal daily driving loads. Shock absorbers that feel adequate with one or two people may bottom out over bumps with a full load. AutoFay rates front and rear shocks as No Visible Fault, Worn, Leaking, or Needs Replacement. Springs are checked for sagging — a sagging spring with a full load means the car sits dangerously low.
Tire pressure must account for the added weight. Tires inflated correctly for daily driving may be underinflated when the car is fully loaded. Our inspection checks tire pressure and notes the tire condition — Good, Cracked, Bulge, Damaged, or Needs Replacement. A tire with a sidewall bulge that holds fine in daily driving can fail catastrophically under the added stress of weight and highway speed.
Braking Distance Increases with Weight
A fully loaded car takes longer to stop. Brake pad thickness directly affects stopping power under heavy loads — pads rated under 25% may not provide adequate stopping distance with four passengers and luggage at highway speed. Front and rear brake rotors must be in good condition — Scored or Warped rotors create uneven braking that becomes more pronounced under load.
Brake fluid level drops as pads wear thinner, and the fluid itself degrades over time. Clear brake fluid is ideal; Dark or Contaminated fluid should be flushed before any long trip. The parking brake must hold reliably — especially if your Eid trip includes mountain roads through Hatta or Jebel Akhdar where you may park on an incline.
Cooling System Under Maximum Stress
Eid travel often coincides with the hottest months. A fully loaded car climbing a highway grade in ambient temperatures approaching 50 degrees Celsius places the cooling system under maximum stress. The radiator must be clean and functioning — Dirty or Damaged radiators cannot dissipate heat effectively. Coolant level should be Full with Clean condition. Cooling fans must activate properly. Cooling hoses rated Soft or Cracked are failure candidates under these conditions.
The AC system works hardest when the car is full. More bodies mean more heat to remove from the cabin. A compressor that blows Cool rather than Very Cold with two people may not maintain comfortable temperature with five. The blower motor needs all speeds working to distribute air effectively to front and rear passengers.
Long-Distance Drivetrain Demands
Extended highway driving at sustained speed stresses the drivetrain differently than city commuting. Transmission operation is tested — Smooth shifting is essential; Hard Shifting or Slipping under load can worsen during a long drive. CV axles and joints that click during turns are close to failure and should not be trusted on a road trip. The driveshaft is checked for vibration that worsens at speed.
Engine oil should be at the correct level with acceptable condition. A long drive with low oil accelerates engine wear. The engine air filter affects performance under sustained load — a Dirty or Needs Replacement filter restricts airflow and reduces engine efficiency when you need it most.
Safety for Every Passenger
With the whole family in the car, every safety system matters. Seat belts are checked for all positions — front and rear. Child seat anchors (ISOFIX) are verified as Present and functional for families with young children. The airbag system shows no warning. Backup camera and parking sensors work for navigating crowded Eid parking lots. All doors close and lock properly.
The spare tire is checked for condition and pressure — a flat spare discovered on the highway shoulder is not a situation any family wants during Eid. The vehicle jack and tool kit should be Present, not Incomplete or Missing.
